A huge Thank you goes out to our donors, both individuals and local businesses for their generosity and support; and of course, all of you who came out and purchased items. I am sure you were able to find great gifts and even a few things for yourselves. Thank you for supporting our library collection development. As we like to say, “Every dollar you spend or donate goes directly into buying new books for our library.” As you know, the focus this year and the coming year will be our children's collection and that is exciting! There will also be new learning computers and more. We have already received a donation from our local TD Bank literacy fund to purchase one of these computers. These computers are programmed with educational learning programs and are ideal for the children who will be using the new library. Food for Fines – month of December Bring in all your overdue books and for a donation of non-perishable food items or toys, we will “forgive” your fines. We will then, donate the food and toys to the Food Bank and the Shelburne District Fire Department Food and Toy drive. Children's Programs Friday, December 19th, 10:30 a.m. will be the last Children's Story time for this year. Renovations are continuing on our new Children's space and we are excited about all the new books, other materials, and new technologies. There will be lots of surprises when we open that area in the New Year! Christmas Crafts: Saturday, December 13, at 11 a.m. Join us for a fun Christmas craft for children ages 5 and up. We will ask for a nominal cost recovery fee of $2 to ensure your child's place. New Books I have just finished Linden MacIntyre's new book, Punishment. It was a good read as he delves into the secret lives of the characters in a small town faced with a tragic death. He writes with intensity about the inevitable struggle as the alleged perpetrator is already tried in the court of public opinion. MacIntyre is a former co-host of the fifth estate and has won the Giller prize for his book, The Bishop's Man. I would recommend this book as a thoughtful and difficult read in terms of emotions and difficult in terms of one's sense of justice. Check out the new titles this week: Sarah Waters, Hilary Mantel, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Gwynne Dyer and Elizabeth May, all have new books and they are here waiting!!
