While most children were nestled, snug in their bed, Young William Jelly lay awake with a thought in his head. For his Christmas stocking contained a special Christmas Wish request, Truth be told, William's wish was very different from the rest. “Dear Santa,” it read as the story goes, “We live here in Shelburne where it snows and snows. I wish on this Christmas, on this cold winter's night, For a snowman friend to be born, a friend who just might, Live here in Shelburne, so happy each day, And we'll be best of friends, forever and a day.” When Santa arrived and read William's request, He said to himself, “I will do my best! T'is too true, young William. For Shelburne winters are cold. I shall give you a friend who will never grow old. He will withstand all seasons, be a good and kind sole. His nose, a carrot, for he is too sweet for coal. Even when history has come and passed, Your name, young William Jelly will last and last.” And that night, a Snowman was created with a Santa tear of joy, A wonderful snowman friend for William, a little snowman boy, A magical Snowman forever young and so dear, William Jelly Belly Snowman, filled with good cheer, A big jelly belly, his name strong and true to be sure, And an even bigger heart, one oh so very pure. First thing in the morning the boy ran down the stairs In the hopes Santa took heed to his cares. One can't begin to describe the boy's joy that he felt To set eyes upon his new friend who would never melt! And so it is told how little William Jelly Belly came to be, The magic is there for all of Shelburne to see, And if you have a secret Christmas Wish, one very special request, One special heartfelt wish, and hope Santa will do his best, Be very kind to each other, strive for what is good and right, Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
