The playdown match was a qualifier to go to the CWOSSA finals on February 25, and 26. “We went in with a good attitude,” said team vice Natalie Brett. “Our team dynamics have improved a lot since our first game. We know our weak spots and the things that we're good at.” The team had a week to prepare for their next stop at the finals. “We're going to practice a lot. Team dynamics is a huge factor, we all want to get along. We're going to work on our line and our shots,” Natalie said. After doing well at the district level, team 2nd, Emma Holmes said the squad was feeling good about entering Thursday's match. “It was even at the beginning. We trying our hardest just to put rocks in the house,” Emma said. “We were feeling pretty good after coming out of Districts, and how hard we played.” The final score was 8–1. Team lead, Emily Knox, said the team has gelled after starting out together earlier in the season. “We definitely came together as a team, more than in the beginning of the year,” Emily said. “We've come a long way since then. We've been practicing a lot and working on a lot of different skills so we felt pretty good about it coming in today.” Rounding out the squad is veteran player and skip Kaelyn Gregory. The Royals will face some tough competition when they go to the CWOSSA championships. Those games are slated for Wednesday, February 25, and 26, in Shelburne.
