Shelburne Town Pharmacy plans 1st Annual SickKids fundraiser

Sanjay Lekhi, pharmacist and owner of Shelburne Town Pharmacy, is hosting a fundraiser for SickKids Hospital Foundation on Saturday, May 23rd at his store in the Giant Tiger/Foodland plaza.

There are many activities planned for the event, including a barbecue lunch and demonstrations by students of Classical Martial Arts Centre (CMAC), owned by Nick and Lisa Lagrasta.

“Our participation in this event will include students of all ages and even a weapons demonstration,” confirmed Lisa Lagrasta.

CMAC will kick-off the event, with their performance beginning at 11:30 a.m.

ACCE Photography, owned by Althea Casamento, will also take part in this event, taking professionally staged photos, with the theme ‘Picnic in the Park'. All proceeds raised from the photo shoot will be donated to the SickKids Foundation. For more information, visit: www.facebook.com/events/1627340124155626/

The Shelburne & Area Feral Cat Rescue, owned by Sharon Mordon, will also be on hand. Feral Cat Rescue volunteers are a group of concerned citizens that are helping to control and manage the feral cat population in Shelburne.

Shelburne's first responders, including Shelburne Police and Shelburne fire fighters will also attend, to talk with participants about safety.

This fist ever Town Pharmacy fundraiser for SickKids benefits many of Sanjay's customers, both directly and indirectly, as proceeds will be used to fund research and training for doctors working with children demonstrating special health concerns. Many of these patients become clients of Town Pharmacy, once released from hospital.

“In the past six or seven weeks, I have seen a number of children after being discharged, some as young as just two months old,” Sanjay told the Free Press. “I would hate to see the quality of their care decline because of lack of funding.”

Sanjay also said that every one of his patients, or their family members, confirmed their experience at SickKids was a positive one, despite the circumstances.

“I want that level of service to our youth to continue,” said Sanjay.

Sanjay hopes to raise $1,000 for SickKids, but that can't happen without your participation. Mark the calendar, and plan to attend the ‘Raising Funds for SickKids Hospital is a Good Deed' fundraiser on May 23rd. Healthier children. A better world.
