Junior C Vets win in overtime

It took an extra period to do it, but the Shelburne Junior C Vets held on in overtime to take a 13–10 win over the Caledon Bandits on Friday night in Shelburne.
After a strong opening the saw the Vets score four unanswered goals in the first period, the Caledon squad fought back in the second period managing to score four of their own.
The Vets kept the lead with three late period goals to make it an 8-4 game going into the last period.
The big challenge came in the final period of regulation play when Caledon tied the game with four goals early in the period.
The Vets responded to take a one goal lead, but again the Bandits came back to tie the game at nine.
Both squads managed to score one more to end the third period at a 10–10 tie and forcing an overtime period to settle the game.
Returning for OT, the Vets rose to the challenge scoring three unanswered goals to take the game with a final score of 13–10.
It was the Vets first win of the 2015 season.
Their home opener the previous weekend ended with a loss to Halton Hills.
There are 15 teams in the Junior C loop this season. The Vets are playing in the West division of the OJCLL.
Two teams – Wilmot and Clarington – have jumped to an early lead in the League standings with both teams undefeated after four games.
The Vets will be back at their home arena at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex this Friday, May 22, to host the Mimico Mountaineers.
Game time is 8 p.m.
