The purpose of the event is to promote the combative arts, and to communicate with and engage the public through the four combative sports that are being hosted by the City of Mississauga at the Hershey Sportszone (to be called the Mississauga Sports Centre) during the 2015 PanAm/Para PanAm Games. Each sport, Wrestling, Taekwondo, Judo and Karate – will be providing a 30 minute demonstration that best communicates the training, work, and benefits of their specific sport and discipline. The ultimate goal of this event is to educate and to create awareness on these four sports, and to increase the public's support and interest in watching and enjoying the Games. The Classical Martial Arts Centre Umaka Dojo, located at 127 Main St. W. in Shelburne, will be participating in this demo along with other martial arts schools in the organization from across the GTA. Students from the Shelburne dojo are excited to be going down and participating in this once in a lifetime world class event, and demonstrating their skill and knowledge to thousands of people attending the event. “I am extremely excited and proud that Karate students from Shelburne, Dundalk and surrounding areas will be participating in an event of this magnitude,” said Sensei Nick Lagrasta, head instructor and director of the Classical Martial Arts Centre in Shelburne. “The kids and adults that train here are really dedicated to the art and really work hard at what they do. This is a really unique opportunity for them to showcase their talents and skills and perhaps inspire other people to look into training in the Martial Arts.” The Viva Mississauga Combative Sports Exhibition will take place on June 13th at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga. Opening ceremonies will begin at 10am, followed by demonstrations throughout the afternoon. The Karate demonstration will be from 3:45 to 4:15, p.m. followed by Karate activities for the public along with Q & A and Interactions until 6pm.
