Headwaters reaches ambitious campaign goal

On August 20th, Headwaters Health Care Foundation announced the successful completion of its $16 million Commitment to Care Campaign.
“We did it!” said Bob Burnside, volunteer Campaign Cabinet Chair.
“I am thrilled to announce that we have reached our campaign goal,” Burnside said. “Our community has once again shown remarkable support for their hospital. Thanks to your generosity, our health care team can continue to provide, and will soon be able to enhance, the exceptional care that the residents of Dufferin-Caledon rely on from Headwaters.”
Of the $16 million raised, $10.5 million will be used to purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment while $5.5 million is earmarked for an outpatient care area expansion for chemotherapy and oncology, minor procedures such as biopsies and infusion clinics, and telemedicine; as well as a renovation of existing hospital space to add an additional operating room, and improve the admission and recovery areas.
“Thanks to our community’s overwhelming generosity and the tireless work of our dedicated volunteer Campaign Cabinet, our patients will have more access to high-quality, compassionate care closer to home with expanded outpatient services like cancer and fracture care and enhanced surgical services,” said Liz Ruegg, President & CEO, Headwaters Health Care Centre. “On behalf of our staff, physicians, volunteers, and Board of Directors, thank you for all your hard work and dedication to Headwaters. Without our community’s support, our many donors and the Foundation, none of this would be possible.”
Headwaters Health Care Foundation publicly launched the Commitment to Care Campaign in October 2012 with an unprecedented leadership gift of $3.75 million from Mrs. Eva Heiny, the largest gift ever received by the Foundation. Additional leadership gifts of $750,000 and two of $500,000 were made by the Headwaters Health Care Centre Auxiliary, the Morningview Foundation and the County of Dufferin respectively, during the course of the campaign.
“It takes an entire community to support a hospital, and Headwaters Health Care Centre is certainly a hospital worthy of our support,” said Burnside.
With the Commitment to Care Campaign now complete, Headwaters Health Care Foundation will now focus on raising the $2 million (net) annually the hospital needs to invest in new and upgraded leading-edge medical equipment as the Government of Ontario does not fund hospital equipment.
