“Fairs more vital than ever”

Former Mayor and now Federal Liberal Candidate Ed Crewson joined in the Opening Ceremonies of the Shelburne Fair last Friday, September 18th in the Assembly Hall at the Shelburne Agricultural Fair Grounds. Other dignitaries included Mr. Crewson's political opponent, incumbent MP Conservative David Tilson, Fair President Bruce Peterson, Councillor Walter Benotto who brought greetings from Shelburne's Mayor Ken Bennington, and Councillor Wade Mills. Councillor Mills was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening and announced the establishment of the Natasha Paterson Memorial Award. Councillor Mills made the argument that rural fairs “may be more vital than ever” as they continue to “provide the community with the opportunity to learn and be engaged” in the importance of agriculture. Mr. Crewson thanked everyone for “the good things they had accomplished together over the 26 years” that he had served in municipal politics for Shelburne and the County and complimented the Fair Board for setting “the example of working together” and achieving great things.
