Police rule–out pet poisoning

September 23, 2015   ·   0 Comments

Last week Shelburne Police was alerted about concerns over a suspicious food product located on the edge of a residential property on Main Street. Information was circulating on social media that these balls of what appeared to be lard stuffed with meat may have been an attempt at poisoning local dogs.
Police contacted local veterinary offices who indicated that they had no reports of poisoning, or concerns about poisoning in any pets recently brought to their offices.
Today police were able to confirm that these items are in fact a traditional Eastern European food known as ‘Kartacz’. This dish is typically ground meat stuffed inside a ball of shredded potato that is then boiled. It appears that this food was discarded at the side of this busy road.
If anyone has any information in relation to this case or any other criminal activity, they are encouraged to contact the Shelburne Police Service at 519-925-3312 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.crimestopperssdm.com
