Prim Pickins coming to Dragons’ Den Dec. 9th

October 30, 2015   ·   0 Comments

Mark your calendars and be sure to tune into the Drangons’ Den December 9th to see local entrepreneur Jame-Lee Higginson of Prim Pickins pitch to the panel of Drangons’ in hopes of coming away with what she needs to help expand her ever growing business.
As a young mom looking to enter the business world while raising her two children, Jamie-Lee Higginson started out owing her own retail furniture and decor store. After having her second child, she closed her store and found her passion in creating her own decor and furniture pieces. Selling her handmade creations led Jamie-Lee to create Prim Pickins, a furniture and home decor company unlike any other.
As demand for her products increased, Jamie-Lee was often contacted by retail store owners who had heard about her business asking for wholesale price lists. After making the jump into wholesale, Jamie-Lee was able to create her own wholesale customer base which included over a hundred stores across Canada. In order to give herself more time producing products and focus on designs rather than administration, Jamie-Lee pitched her products to a nation distribution company and this partnership has had Prim Pickins customer base grow by the hundreds to include major retailers such as Sears, Lawton Drugs, Hallmark, Home Hardware and more.
With demand for her products growing nationwide, Jamie-Lee teamed up with furniture manufacturing experts in the local Mennonite community. The combination of Jamie-Lee’s design talents and the expert craftsmanship of local Mennonites has resulted in quality, Canadian handmade solid wood products that Jamie-Lee is proud to offer her customers.
Jamie-Lee’s passion and entrepreneurial vision have not gone unnoticed. She has been nominated for numerous awards over the past three years and took home the 2014 Greater Dufferin Area Chamber of Commerce BE Awards for New Business Excellence. Jamie-Lee has also been approached by several high profile, national companies, such as Cottage Life, Distribution companies and Home Hardware to design and manufacture items specifically for their product lines.
Prim Pickins shows no sign of slowing down. Jamie-Lee has cultivated a loyal customer base and is gaining fans across the country with her unique design point of view. Her small town upbringing, hands-on and humble approach to business and life has earned her respect and acknowledgment as “someone to watch” within the world of women in business.
