Holding the tax cheats accountable

May 30, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Dear editor:

Having read Mr. Tilson’s article in The Free Press, I applaud his effort to expose ‘tax cheats’. I quote: “These tax cheats not only break the law, but they also make the tax burden go up for hard-working Canadians who pay their taxes in full and on time.”

To me, breaking the law translates to having committed a crime, and for a Party that is reportedly ‘tough on crime’, these cheaters/criminals should be arrested, charged and their names published as any young 20 year old person is who is caught with drug. In fact, the tax cheat does more harm than the pot smoker.

The ‘agencies’ which help tax evaders find places to ‘hide’ their money should also be named and prosecuted.

Maybe I am a dreamer but I hope Mr. Tilson’s efforts to expose these law breakers will continue. And, I hope the Harper government will be as bold as the U.S. Senate has been in taking ‘Apple’ to task.

Dick Byford,

Mulmur
