AODA 10th Anniversary Champion Award

Congratulations to Accessibility Advisory Committee member, Amanda Rodgers, for receiving the AODA 10th Anniversary Champion Award. The award was presented to Amanda by Mayor Bennington on Monday December 7th, at 7 p.m. prior to the commencement of the scheduled council meeting.
Nominated by the Accessibility Advisory Committee, Amanda has been an active advocate for accessibility in Shelburne. She has a true passion and commitment in the promotion of accessibility. She was instrumental in bringing Cruisers Sports for the Physically Disabled to Dufferin County.
Amanda was successful in lobbying the Upper Grand District School Board to implement and retrofit Shelburne public schools to break down barriers to accessibility for children currently attending the schools. Amanda has been a member of the Shelburne Accessibility Advisory Committee for several years and has brought forward enthusiastic ideas to incorporate accessibility within town parks and at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex (CDRC) she is truly deserving of receiving the award.
June 13, 2015 celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. The purpose of the act is to improve opportunities for persons with disabilities and to provide for their involvement in the identification, removal and prevention of barriers to their full participation in the life of the province. This is a one-time award to recognize outstanding individuals who demonstrate passion and commitment in the promotion of awareness of accessibility and inclusiveness in their community.
