This is also the year we want to show you how to take advantage of some of our new e-resources. Flipster, our magazine resource where you can red full colour, full-text of 55 different magazines which are updated monthly; and now coming FREEGAL , a music database with thousand of songs available. We will have all those on our newly designed web site to download and stream, within the next two weeks…And if you come into the library, we will show you step by step. We are also planning lots of new programs for children and teens and some short Tech learning programs for our adult patrons. We are excited! Children's Programs Super Readers Club: A new reading initiative for children from Kindergarten to Grade 6. We will have a reading passport with challenges and as the children complete each challenge (reading a new book or discovering new facts), they will obtain prizes and move through a category of incentives. This program will start, Tuesday February 2 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Forest of Reading: Building on the other Forest of Reading programs running at the elementary schools, we will run Silver Birch and the Express program for Grades 4–6 p.m. again starting on February 2 at 3:30 p.m. That's right, Groundhog Day. Story time Starts this Friday at 10:30. The theme very appropriately is: Snow. Teen Scene Our teen programming will start up again Thursday, January 15th, from 6–7 p.m. This month we will be focusing on financial literacy, including reasons to spend, save, and invest! How will we make this exciting you ask? Well, how about a giant, life-sized game of Monopoly. Not just any Monopoly, but Hunger Games Monopoly! May the odds be ever in your favour. As a follow up to that, our book club meeting will take place Thursday, January 22nd, 6–7 p.m., where we will discuss all of those great holiday reads that were read over the break, and play another finance game called “The Bean Game”. No events will be scheduled for Thursday, January 29th. Lastly, remember all the fun you had participating in the Forest of Reading (Blue Spruce, Silver Birch, & Red Maple) when you were in public school? To continue the fun, we are starting up the White Pine Award program for grades 9-12 on February 4th (6-7pm). Just like the other programs, participants will need to read at least 5/10 nominated titles, all of which are Canadian, to vote for this year's winner! Challenges, prizes, and a pizza party are in store for those who successfully complete the program! Please call YOUR library to let us know you will be participating! 519-925-2168 NEW BOOKS Fiction Darkthaw by Kate A.
