News from the Shelburne Library: New On-Line Resources

We have made our online resources more user friendly and accessible so check them out!

Go to our homepage, www.shelburnelibrary.ca, and click on ONLINE RESOURCES on the right hand side and you will see many new resources: Chilton Auto Repair; Small Engine Repair; Hobbies and Crafts; Home Improvements, and MORE. Get up-to-date how to information with the click of your mouse. We are working on Freegal, a music streaming and download resource.

It is fantastic and as soon as it is live, we will post it on our website, in this column and on Facebook.

Another bonus is if you are not sure how to use these e-resources, we have Emily here on Thursdays and Fridays to give Tech lessons.

You do need to book an appointment by calling or dropping by as these are very popular sessions.

Program News

Look for some exciting programs starting next week for our children and teens.

Although Family Literacy day is celebrated on January 27, we hope to promote literacy all year long starting with these great new incentives for reading.

Park that iPad and grab a book to enter our weekly draws and fun challenges.

Children's Programs

We will be continuing our Friday morning Storytime at 10.30 a.m. as this is a very popular program with our very young children and their caregivers, moms, dads and grandparents. They also join in the fun with story, songs and crafts.

Our new programs start next week on February 2 at 3.30 p.m.: Forest of Reading for Grades 3 - 6 and our Super Reader's Club for children from Kindergarten to Grade 6. Each child will receive a Passport to being a Super Reader. There will be weekly themes and activities and prizes for those who have completed the week's theme.  Please register, check it out and join the fun.

Teen Scene

Exams are on and teens are stressed out, so we are ramping up to start new programs that will melt the stress away!

For those teens who are in Grades 9 - 12, we will be running the White Pine Award program from February 4 through April 14! Activities will take place the first three Thursdays of the month, leaving the final Thursday of the month for Pizza and Pages book club. All events take place between 6 and 7 p.m.  Teens will not only have the opportunity to read 10 top Canadian literary works for 2016, but they can look forward to activities such as: WP inspired Guess Who?, life-sized Where's that Character?, writing letters to their favourite authors, and creating works of art that could be presented to the winning authors in April!

While teens will want to read all 10 nominated books, only 5 must be read in order to vote for the winner! For those teens who do not quite meet the Grade 9-12 criteria, and whose schools are not putting on the Red Maple program (Grades 7 & 8), we will have book inspired activities!

The same rules apply—read at least five qualifying books and you can vote for the winner in your category.

Spoiler alert: if you qualify to vote, you'll be invited to a voting day pizza party! Join us Thursday, February 4 at 6 p.m. for full details. Register in advance by calling 519-925-2168, or drop by that night.
