Wolves Midget LL1 win 3-1 over Honeywood

The last time the Shelburne Wolves Midget LL2 team played the Honeywood Hurricanes they came up on the short side, so the Wolves were looking for a little payback on January 25 at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex.

After a scoreless first period in Monday night's game that saw a lot of back and forth action, the Wolves opened the scoring early in the second period when Jake Armstrong picked up a rebound and scored on the open side of the Honeywood net.

It was a tie game when the Hurricanes scored to make it 1-1, but the Wolves went ahead when Quinn DeLaat got the go ahead goal late in the second period.

"There's some things we've got to work on, but we went out there and played our game and we've got the scoreboard to show for it," DeLaat said after the game. "We were moving the puck really well. There was a very positive attitude on the bench. Our coaches were keeping us in it."

Moving into the final period the Wolves took a two goal lead when Shawn Appleton crossed the net and took the backhand to score.

They got a power play opportunity midway in the frame when the Hurricanes had a man in the box but despite swarming the net they couldn't capitalize on the extra man.

The Wolves kept up a solid defensive posture for the rest of the game to hang on and win 3-1.

"I think we played a good game. It was fast. We played pretty hard out there," summed up Wolves forward Justin Bennett, before noting what was on the team's minds after the second period. "We said we should keep working as a team and playing hard."

The regular season is coming down to the final few games.

The Midget LL1 team will play their final game on the road against the Oro Thunder on Saturday, January 30, before heading into the playoffs.
