The Shelburne Muskies had a good performance in Saturday (Jan. 23) night’s game at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex when they hosted the Ripley Wolves, but the third period turned against them and the had to settle for a loss.

The game saw the Wolves get off to an early lead and by the midway mark of the second period the Wolves had a three goal lead that left the Muskies trailing 4-1.

It was crunch time for the Muskies squad and they hit back hard scoring two quick goals that closed the gap and made it a 4-3 game by the time the buzzer sounded to end the frame.

Returning for the final 20 minutes saw a hard hitting game that produced a lot of back and forth action in both ends, but the Wolves managed to slip two more to the back of the Muskies net to widen the gap to three goals.

The Wolves held on defensively for the rest of the game and managed to leave the ice with a 6-3 win over the hometown Muskies.

It was the second loss in as many nights for the Muskies.

The previous night, Friday, January 22, they travelled up to Saugeen Shores to take on the Winterhawks.

In that game the Shelburne squad came up short taking a 4-1 loss.

In the North Division of the WOAA, the Mapleton-Minto 81’s are in first place with an impressive 21-1 record and 42 points for the season.

They are followed by the Durham Thundercats in second place with 36 points and a 17-5 record so far.

The Muskies will be at Saugeen Shores on Friday, January 29, to again face the Winterhawks.

They will return to home ice on Saturday, January 30, to host the Lucknow Lancers.

Game time is 8:00 p.m.
