Recycled Teenager is 'One of a kind'

Local Shelburne resident Ed O'Gorman belongs to the Alliston Classic Car and Truck Club Inc, The Recycled Teenagers. Within this club are wide variety of restored vehicles from the 30's and up, but there is only one 1987 Dodge Ram LE D150  and it belongs to, Ed O'Gorman.

O'Gorman is the original owner and notes, “The LE Decorative package includes valour upholstered seats, door panels, roof liner, matching carpeted flooring.”

Although the fibre glass tunnel cover was an add on, this otherwise completely restored vehicle has matching front and back Chrome Bumpers, 318 Engine, Power Brakes , Power Steering, Automatic Transmission, Sliding Back Window, 25 Gallon Gas Tank and as O'Gorman jests, “It also has ‘Arm-strong' powered windows!”

As a keepsake for his grandson, this vehicle was a true labour of love to bring back to its original glory.

“The original frame had to be sandblasted, epoxy primed and then re-painted,” said O'Gorman.  “The investment is definitely worth the satisfaction. I have no regrets.”

O'Gorman, like most car lovers interested in restoration, realize time and patience is required. The process is crucial and a special level of trust is involved. In 2010, body work and paint was done at TBR Auto Body in Shelburne, the 318 Engine re-build was done at Roy's Service Centre, in Orangeville, and the Pin striping was done at Nibs, Marsville.  In 2011, the vehicle's signature Ram's Head was brought back to its former glory by Paint Werx, in Shelburne.

What advice does O'Gorman offer to anyone who is thinking about undergoing a restoration?

“If you can afford it, do it- but do it right the first time.”

O'Gorman has been a member of the Alliston Classic Car and Truck Club for three years. “I really enjoy the club. You get a lot of laughs, good source of information and it's a good fellowship.”

Attending shows entitle club members to bragging rights, admiration and appreciation of other vehicles, and as O'Gorman admits, “My truck is the only Dodge there. People are impressed with the work done, especially the painting and airbrushing.”

The Alliston Car and Truck Club, the Recycled Teenagers meet every Tuesday at the Canadian Tire in Alliston where Cruise Night is held. Membership is Twenty dollars. If interested in joining simply show up for Cruise Night for more information.
