The Centre Dufferin District High School Royals’ Junior and Senior basketball teams have both finished the regular season at the top of the District 4 standings.

The Junior team played their final regular season game against Erin District High School on Wednesday, February 10, and left the court with a decisive 71-23 victory.

The win gives the Junior team a perfect 8-0 record for the season.

The Juniors averaged an exceptional 64 points per game.

They allowed only 212 points against, averaging a point spread of 27 points per game over the season.

“We’ve got guys who can score, there’s no doubt about that,” said Royals junior coach Matt Barlow. “It’s been a privilege for me to have this much talent to work with this year. It’s making my life easy, that’s for sure.”

On top of having some obviously good coaching, the squad has displayed some sound techniques on the court both offensively and on the defence.

“I think they’ve come a long way. Teaching them to be able to make their own decisions based on what the defence has given them: work as a team, share the ball and not try to do it as an individual,” Barlow said of working with the team over the season.

The Royals Senior squad also finished in the number one spot in the District 4 standings with a 7-1 record.

The Seniors played their final regular season game on Wednesday, February 10, against Erin District High School as well, and left the court with a 73-20 win.

After taking their first game of the season on a forfeit, the Senior squad went on to score 451 points over seven games while giving up 215 points.

That averages out to 64 points per game in their favour while allowing an average of only 30 points per game against.

Both the Senior and Junior squads will now go on to the District 4 playoffs with those games taking place in the gym at CDDHS on Wednesday, February 17.

The Junior Royals will be up against Erin District High School in the opening round.

The Seniors will take on Emmanuel Christian High School for their semi-final game.

Results of the semi-final games were not available at press time.

Winners of the semi-final games will go on to play in the District 4 championships to be held on Monday, February 22.
