Shelburne Town Pharmacy to Hold 2nd Annual Sick Kids Fundraiser

By Michelle Janzen

Sanjay Lekhi, pharmacist and owner of Shelburne Town Pharmacy, is hosting his second annual fundraiser for SickKids Hospital Foundation on Saturday, May 28 at his store in the Giant Tiger/Foodland plaza from 11.30 a.m. until 3 p.m.

There are many activities planned for the event, including a barbecue lunch and demonstrations by students of Classical Martial Arts Centre (CMAC), owned by Nick Lagrasta and Lisa Gillard.

ACCE Photography, owned by Althea Casamento, will also take part in this event, taking professionally staged photos.

The Shelburne & Area Feral Cat Rescue, owned by Sharon Mordon, will also be on hand. Feral Cat Rescue volunteers are a group of concerned citizens that are helping to control and manage the feral cat population in Shelburne.

This year, Sohayla Smith of Troupe Adore is arranging for musical entertainment with a blend of solos, duos, trios and chorale in genres of folk, rock, pop, chorale and instrumental.

There will also be face painting for the little ones, and back by popular demand will be Elvis tribute artist Terry Dieter closing out the event with a performance from 2 – 3 p.m.

After raising close to $1,500 at last years' fundraiser, Sanjay hopes that this year's fundraiser will surpass that amount.

“Many of my clients are young children that I see after being discharged from Sick Kids,” Sanjay tells the Shelburne Free Press. “As adults, we sometimes contribute to our bad health, however these newborns and young children don't choose or contribute to the illness, sickness, [and/or] diseases they have. I would hate to see the quality of their care decline because of lack of funding.”

Over the past few weeks, customers who are not able to make it to the Fundraiser have already stated donating money directly at Shelburne Town Pharmacy.

“Without your participation this can't happen,” says Sanjay.

Therefore, if you are not able to make the event you can still participate by donating now.

This event will also see a raffle of beautiful baskets donated by local business with tickets set $2 each or 3 for $5 that can be purchased now at Shelburne Town Pharmacy.

“Anyone still wishing to contribute to this fundraiser by donating to our raffle can do so by contacting us at the Pharmacy or coming in to see us,” he says.

Mark your calendar and plan to attend “Raising Funds for SickKids Hospital on May 28.

Healthier children make a better world.
