Show & Shine was a gleaming success

By Deb Freeman

The sun came out and shone through at Centre Dufferin District High School’s 3rd Annual Show & Shine last Friday, May 20, which proved to be popular with students, teachers and local business owners in Shelburne.

Organized mainly by workshop teacher Mr. Schiedel, and with help from other teachers and students at the school, this event is getting bigger after only its third year.

“It’s an afternoon of fun and a chance for students to show off their machines, dirt bikes, tractors, cars and also items they have made at the school in workshop classes,” said Mr. Schiedel.

It’s a great cause to help raise funds for local charity “Hair off for Cancer” with the many baked goods on sale, and games. This event couldn’t happen without the sponsors either, who gave up their time for the event, including Steve Bowles from Auto Centre Dufferin, Linamar, C.A.R.S. and OYAP (Upper Grand District School Board).

Many classic cars were on show and the thrill of the display was the vibrant yellow racing car owned by local business C.A.R.S, which was donated to the owners Paul & Nicole for their Autistic son Paul Jr., and was once driven in the INDY.

Brad Bennett, also a regular, was happy to show everybody his spectacular tank that he and his dad built in their garage.

Many amazing vehicles dotted the parking lot at the high school, this sunny afternoon.

So much fun was had by all, and students and teachers alike who gave up their time to host this event. They can’t wait to  see how much was raised for the Headwaters Cancer unit,  and they would like to thank everybody who attended and put their hands in their pockets to help this worthy cause.
