The Salvation Army has deployed four community response unites (CRUs) to feed 300 first responders engaged in the Fort McMurray fire response efforts. Currently, the Salvation Army's Community response vehicles are serving 2,000 meals a day to first responders battling wildfires in Fort McMurray. In addition to distributing food, water and hygiene kits, they also provide emotional and spiritual care, a listening ear to those tasked with combating the fire, and ensuring public safety. As such, the Shelburne District Firefighters Association held a car wash this past Saturday to raise funds to donate to the Salvation Army Alberta Fire Fund. “We are very pleased to report that we will be donating $820 to this fund,” Chief Brad Lemaich tells the Shelburne Free Press. “We choose this charity because [we] can't be there to directly help our brothers and sisters, so we chose to help those who help them.” The RCMP is escorting CRUs to the emergency operation center in Fort McMurray, while the Salvation Army is working closely with community agencies to determine how they can best assist and ensure that no needs go unmet. Before the fires intensified, the community response units in Alberta were stocked with provisions and ready to serve. “The Firefighters Association has also donated $200 to the Red Cross Relief Fund,” adds Chief Lemaich. “We couldn't have done this without the support of the community and for that we sincerely thank everyone who participated. We would like to send a special thank you out to Royal Towing who donated funds to our department to purchase the car wash supplies used to hold our car wash.” The public can help with relief efforts through monetary donations that can be made at SalvationArmy.ca/albertafires or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY. A $10 donation can be made by texting FORTMAC to 45678. --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2016-05-28 01:09:37 Post date GMT: 2016-05-28 05:09:37 Post modified date: 2016-05-28 01:09:37 Post modified date GMT: 2016-05-28 05:09:37 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
