The Mansfield Junior Cubs won their eighth game of the season on the diamond in Mansfield on Sunday, July 3, taking a 7-5 win over the New Lowell Knights.

The Cubs first at-bat started off with singles from Bailey Durocher and Jordan Metz.

They advanced to put the Cubs on first and second base but then the inning ended before they could score.

Jeff Christman led off on the mound for the Mansfield team.

New Lowell got the first run of the game after advancing runners to second and third base, and following up with a hit to left field that drove in a run.

The inning ended with an infield fly.

The game was tied at one in the second inning when the Cubs led off with a single from Matt Cameron. Cameron managed to steal second base.

Another Mansfield single bought enough time to bring a runner across the plate to end the inning with a tie game.

At the end of the game, the Cubs managed to hang on to take the win 7-5 – their eighth game on the plus side this season.

After the weekend, the Junior Cubs have an 8-5 record and a first place in the Junior Division standings, with a one point lead over the Ivy Rangers.

The Knights are in third place followed by the Midland Twins in fourth.

With a four team division this season, the Junior division of the North Dufferin Baseball League has seen some tight games and a lot of exciting baseball action.

The Cubs will be in Ivy on July 7 to face the Rangers.

They return to Mansfield on Friday, July 8, to play a make-up game against the Midland Twins that was canceled back on June 9.

The first pitch is scheduled for 6.30 p.m.
