Tickets are going fast for Mystery and Mayhem: Authors in the Hills of Mulmur on Sunday, August 21 @ 1 p.m.

Authors Ian Hamilton, Steve Burrows, and Inger Ash Wolfe (Michael Redhill) will discuss their works in a panel format with moderator Ken Weber, author of the 5 Minute Mysteries. Food and refreshments are an added treat. Tickets are available for $35 at BookLore, The Township of Mulmur, Shelburne Public Library, Dufferin County Museum and Archives and online at www.pegrampicnics.com/mystery.

Naturally, the books have been flying off our shelves and I can’t tell you how much I am enjoying reading about Ava Lee, Ian Hamilton’s protagonist in his novels.

Children’s Programs

Children and parents were delighted to see the spiders, snakes, hedgehog, and other various creatures that Party Safari brought to the Library on Saturday. The children had an opportunity to touch and hold these little creatures.

The TD Summer Reading program is in full swing with lots of activities and many books are being read by the children. All together they have read over 537 books so far. The goal is to read 2,000 books by August 20!

If you would like to be a part of our program and help us reach that goal, come in and see us, or phone for more details.

Remember, there is the book club on Mondays, the craft session on Tuesdays, the LEGO club on Wednesday afternoon for ages 4 to 7 at 2.30 p.m., and for ages 8 and up at 3.30. We also have a movie on Thursday afternoon and Story Time on Friday mornings.

Paws to Read is starting on Wednesday, August 3 from 10.30 – 11.30 a.m. There are 15 minute sessions to read to Mac the therapeutic dog. This wonderful program is for any child who would like to practice their reading skills before school starts.

For more information, please give us a call at 519-925-2168 or drop in to see us.

Teen Summer Reading Challenge

Last week, our teens experienced so many different activities, from learning how to properly decorate a gluten-free, vegan cupcake; to deciding on a strategy to use to win the minute-to-win-it games; to escaping from the Escape Room, the highlight of our week.

For the escape room, three teams of three members had 15 minutes to escape the “locked” library room. The scenario was this: they woke up in the locked library, with 15 minutes to spare before a fictional exam.

Escape the room = be able to write the exam. Simple, right? Wrong. There were a lot of laughs, a bit of frustration, and even some well-earned cheers when the teams combined and unlocked the door (with a bit of help)!

This week, a small group will learn how to make lip balms with locally and organically sourced ingredients (registration full). Then, on Thursday, July 28 @ 6 p.m., our book club will welcome guest, Marian Gallaugher.

Marian will be leading and teaching our Teens the art of storytelling. Our teens have been working diligently towards our collective summer reading goal, and have already read a combined 138 hours! That’s almost six days’ worth of reading!
