Junior Cubs in post season action

By Brian Lockhart

Junior teams in the North Dufferin Baseball League have started the playoffs with the Mansfield Junior Cubs up against the Midland Twins.
The Cubs finished in first place in the League with a 10-7-1 record and 21 points.
They were tied in wins, losses, and ties with the New Lowell Knights, but took the top spot based on games between the two teams during the regular season, with Mansfield coming out on top in more games.
The series got underway in Midland over the weekend.
Due to scheduling conflicts with minor baseball in Mansfield, the Cubs will play their home games at the diamond in Lisle.
The first round of the playoffs will be a best-of-three match-up, so there is little room for error by any teams and should provide some very solid baseball.
The New Lowell Knights are up against the Ivy Rangers in the first round.

The first game of that series got underway in New Lowell on Tuesday, July 19, and end with a 12-2 win for the Knights.
Game two of the series, on Thursday, July 21, was a stalemate that ended 1-1.
The Rangers ended the regular season with an 8-8-2 record good for 18 points and third place.
The Midland Twins finished in fourth place in the Division with a 5-11-2 record and 12 points.
As anyone in baseball knows, a game can be turned upside down with one good inning and these teams are all out to play their best so there will be some really good action on local diamonds to end the 2016 North Dufferin Baseball League season.
Once the opening round of playoffs is complete, the Junior Championship will be scheduled and played after the August Civic Holiday long weekend.
In the League's Senior Division, regular season action ended July 24.
Playoffs for the top eight teams will begin after the Civic Holiday long weekend.
