Shelburne Library News: Children & Youth Carnival

CHILDREN AND YOUTH CARNIVAL – 2:00 pm – Thursday October 18th @ YOUR Library

Our Children and Youth Carnival (and author visits) promises to be a highlight this summer.

Starting at 2 p.m., Canadian author Maria Gallaugher will be presenting her new book, Red Sparrow’s Glorious Maritime Adventure for the younger children.

This reading will be followed by indoor and outdoor games, lots of music, henna, and face painting and a BBQ at 4 p.m. in our parking Lot.

Then, of course, at 6 p.m., we have Erin Bow, the exciting YA author of The Scorpion Rules. There is a registration list on the front desk for you to please let us know you’re planning on attending!

Mystery and Mayhem: Authors in the Hills of Mulmur on Sunday, August 21 @ 1:00 pm

Mystery and Mayhem in Mulmur features four of Canada’s “most wanted.”

Ken Weber, In the Hills columnist, and author of the Five Minute Mysteries, is the moderator and is working on a special Mulmur Five Minute Mystery for the event.

Crime writer Ian Hamilton will be talking about The Princeling of Nanjing, the ninth book in his popular Ava Lee crime series.

A missing girl, a field of bones and a crime buried for 50 years: Police Chief Hazel Micallef braces herself for a serious investigation in Inger Ash Wolfe’s, The Night Bell.

Steve Burrows, one of the hottest new mystery authors in Canada, continues the career of Inspector Domenic Jejeune, in his third novel in the Birder Murder series, The Cast of Falcons.

Tickets are available for $35 at Shelburne Public Library, BookLore, The Township of Mulmur, Dufferin County Museum and Archives and at www.pegrampicnics.com/mystery.

This includes meeting the authors and enjoying delicious hors d’oevres and refreshments. Bring a friend and enjoy a wonderful Sunday afternoon in August.

 

Children’s Programs

The Butterfly Conservatory will be here on Friday, August 19 at 10.30 a.m. The cost is a $2 deposit for a ticket. The program is for Ages 3 and Up. It is both exciting and educational to see the creatures up close, learn about their habitat and even touch some of them, if you want. Our other activities are continuing for another two weeks, so please take note of your August calendar.

Movie Day is on Thursday at 1 p.m. and the Lego club is on Wednesday afternoon from 2.30 to 3.30 for ages 4—7, and 3.30 to 4.30 for ages eight and up.

 

Paws to Read: Wednesdays, from 10.30 to 11.30 a.m. There are 15 minute sessions to read to Mac the therapeutic dog. This wonderful program is for any child who would like to practice their reading skills before school starts.

You must register to let us know you are coming so we can continue the program.
