The Shelburne and District Fair is getting the community involved in promoting the 149th Fall Fair with a Roadside Display Contest.

The competition centres on artistic displays of this year’s fair theme: Rubber Boots and Country Roots.

The competition is open to homes, schools, and businesses within a 32km area of Shelburne.

The Agriculture Society encourages a variety of agricultural equipment and products in the displays depicting the theme. It should include: Shelburne Fall Fair and the dates September 16, 17, and 18.

All displays must be visible from the road, or in the case of a business displayed in the window. Although there is no maximum size, there is a minimum requirement of 4’ by 4’ for the displays to qualify.

The judges will be looking for originality and creativity, as well as the use of agricultural products and equipment. A good deal of consideration will be given to how well the display promotes this year’s theme and fair.

All entries will be photographed and displayed in the hall during the fair weekend. The winners will receive a family package of four weekend passes for the fair.

The entries must be completed and ready to be judged by Saturday, September 10, and remain up until the end of the fair.

Enter the Roadside Display Competition and help to support the Shelburne and District Fall Fair on the Shelburne Fair Facebook page, or by phoning Cheryl Lynn Devlin at 416-417-7447, or Lindsay Wegener at 519-925-6246, or by emailing Cheryl Lynn Devlin at mybearyscents@gmail.com.

With only weeks to go before fair weekend, be sure to pick-up your 2016 Fair book and get crafting, baking, canning and more, to enter at the fair.

Entry books are available at the Shelburne Public Library, Jelly Craft Bakery, Town of Shelburne Municipal Office, Crewson Insurance, Sharpe Farm Supplies, and The Wool & Silk Company.
