Trinity United Church features new Troupe-Adore Art By Marni Walsh From now until October 7, the art gallery at Trinity United Church at 200 Owen Sound Street in Shelburne, will feature visual art work by members of Shelburne's Troupe-Adore. The recently renovated gallery is showing 12 area artists in this display. Trinity United Church hosts this lovely little art gallery in the lower level of the church, where gallery coordinator Ann McAlpine says, “Any medium is welcome, and artists may display art and host a show, preferably for a month at a time.” The building is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesdays to Fridays at no cost to the artist and no cost to the public. Trinity Gallery was initiated after the success of their first Spirit Touches Art Touches Spirit (STartS) concerts and Visual Arts days held in October. “We wanted to invite the community on a daily basis to the gallery to enjoy a quiet time, to sit and reflect while admiring the beauty of the artwork,” says Ann McAlpine. “It's always a joy to work with talented artists and an honour to share their work.” On the institution of “The Church” and art over the ages, Ann reflects, “Historically, at the worst of times, The Church has exercised control on artists and sought to limit expression. At the best of times, The Church has supported artists – performing and visual – to set their spirit free and express their deepest convictions. Trinity church wants to enable the artists to demonstrate where the Spirit touches Art and where Art touches Spirit.” As a budding organization of local artists and performers, Troupe-Adore has been working hard to bring all disciplines of art out into the community for all to enjoy. The Trinity Gallery event showcases 11 local visual artists of all ages and styles. “We are very proud of our efforts in the Shelburne community over the past six to ten months,” says Sohayla Smith, group founder, and we are grateful that Trinity United Church opened their doors to us, enabling us to present this gallery showcase to the town of Shelburne.” The art show opened at Trinity on August 16, presenting the talents of Troupe-Adore Artists including Marcus Fessler, Kelly McDowell, Josh Oatman, Kathy Wright, Jason Riedel, Tracey Plain, Steve Noseworthy of Mad River Photography, Alora Langridge, Nataly Kolesnik, Robert Allen, Roxton Smith, and Sohayla Smith. Shelburne's Kathy Wright uses crayons in her work and melts them into beautiful designs. She says her “inspirations are first colour then I just start melting until I like what I see.” Tracey Plain is a former English teacher from the United Kingdom. Her father, who died when she was only ten, was an artist and her “first inspiration to be an artist.” She began producing art on a regular basis about five years ago and now has several displays in town galleries throughout southern Ontario. “So far I have worked on canvas or paper using acrylic paints and collage and sometimes marker pens,” says Plain. “As my art developed out of art therapy, much of what I have produced has been of a self-exploratory nature.” Nataly Kolesnik was born in Ukraine, where she took classes at the Kharkov School of Fine Art as a youth. In 2013, Nataly joined the Alton Artists group, and works predominantly in the medium of acrylic painting, but also has a passion for drawing. With an interest in popular visual and internet culture, artist Marcus Fessler focuses “on a very multidisciplinary practice that reflects ideas emergent in digital and internet culture.” He says he uses a combination of symbolic imagery, text and sound “while exploring the effect the images I create can have on the contemporary world.” Visual artist and performer Jason Riedel features a beautiful multi canvas work in the shape of a fish entitled “Ephemera.” Jason is “inspired by the idea of art pieces becoming many things and tattoo themes reflected in modern art.” Ephemeron contrasts delicate cherry blossoms against biochemical water. Regular open hours for Trinity Gallery are Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m. during the Shelburne BIA Farmer's Market, and some Saturday afternoons TBD for meet the artist moments. Some beautiful photography and children's work is included in the Troupe-Adore display at Trinity Church.
