The North Dufferin Baseball League’s senior division season came to an end on Sunday, September 25, when the New Lowell Knights defeated the Orangeville Giants in Game Seven of the championship series, with a score of 4-1 in the final game.

Unlike Game Six, which saw the Knights get a run-away lead with three home runs for the game, Game Seven was a close match.

New Lowell got an early lead on a sacrifice bunt that brought in a run.

No runs were scored in the fourth inning.

Orangeville was back in the game in the fifth inning when Daryl Bond led off with a single to left field then managed to get into scoring position on third base on a missed catch at home plate.

Brett Chater got a hit to drive in a run and make it a tie game.

The Knights were back in the lead in the fifth inning when Todd Gowan hit a huge one over the centre field fence for a two-run home run.

That was followed up with another New Lowell home run by Todd Patton that made it a 4-1 game with two innings left in the match.

The Orangeville team had one final chance to get back in the game but a double play on a short fly left them with two out and a three run deficit with one final player left to bat.

The game ended with a win for New Lowell as repeat North Dufferin Baseball League champions.

“We got a little further than last year,” said Giants coach Nathan Drury. “We made it to the semis last year before we were eliminated by the same squad. We knew it was going to tough. We came out and had a tie. We competed with them but they seemed to have that little bit of experience on us. Overall the season was a success. That was the goal all year – to go further than last year.”

The Knights ended the regular season with a 21-4-1 record.

The Giants finished in fifth place before battling through the playoffs to make it to the championship.
