Star Catchers continue on after reaching dream goal

By Taylee Jackson

Star Catchers Foundation hosted another event on Tuesday, October 11 and Wednesday, October 12, called the Healthy Heart Fundraiser.

At this fundraiser we sold 10 different healthy food items including: fruit kabobs, veggie kabobs, salad, wraps, hummus, gluten free pumpkin muffins, homemade granola bars, smoothies and more.

Everything was made from scratch, even our quinoa flour, to ensure that everything was, in fact, healthy.

We did this event in order to promote health of youth and teens and decrease the risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes and other negative health impacts as a result of poor diet.

Both days we went to Centre Dufferin District High School from 11.35 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., and Hyland Heights Elementary School from 1 p.m. – 1.30 p.m.

We raised $226.90 in just two days.

We will be doing this again in the future at both schools to continue promoting health.

On Thursday, October 13, 2016 myself, Taylee Jackson, and Clara Seston (both aged 17 and in Grade 12) went to The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto and we donated $1,000 to SickKids Foundation to support cancer research.

We are overjoyed that we have finally reached our goal and we will continue in the future to raise money for SickKids.

One day, we hope to make it onto the 'Wall of Fame' which is only for donors with a minimum of $10,000.
