Ten years ago, Paul Born, a specialist in community engagement spoke, at a two day workshop in the Headwaters which became the catalyst to form the organization Headwaters Communities in Action (HCIA).

Mr. Born will return to be the keynote speaker for the organization he helped form on October 28 for the HCIA Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Mr. Born, a compelling speaker and the founder of the Tamarack Institute will speak about his book “Deepening Community: Finding Joy Together in Chaotic Times.”

He is the President and co-founder of the Tamarack Institute which has provided leadership in Canada on issues of citizen engagement, collaborative leadership and community innovation since 2001.

Along with Mr. Born, a delegation from Logan City, Australia will participate in the AGM to get a closer look at the HCIA organization and how it works on behalf of community well-being.

Most recently, HCIA partnered with DC Moves, a Dufferin County collective of agencies and organizations that provide human and social services to the people of Dufferin.

A recent meeting featured a presentation on the poverty work that is taking place and supported by a stakeholder group formed out of Dufferin agencies, and how social issues and poverty in particular have been addressed at Caledon Community Services.

HCIA Chair Shirley Boxem says the organization is “hoping to raise awareness on the collective work that is happening in the County at the AGM.”

HCIA is looking for new board members for the backbone community organization.

Interested Leadership Committee members can contact HCIA at action@headwaterscommunities.org for more information and register for the Friday, October 28th Annual General Meeting, taking place from 1 – 4 p.m. at www.headwaterscommunities.org.
