Shelburne Library News: Silent Auction & Book Sale, Saturday, November 26

These are exciting days at YOUR library!

Not only are we expecting boxes and boxes of new books, but every day brings in new and interesting items for our Silent Auction.

Everyone is so generous and we appreciate all donations.

NEW PROGRAM: Crafty Ladies?

We have had a great deal of interest lately in starting a monthly get together craft session. Everyone could bring something they are working on.

The time could also be spent showing others how to do that particular craft or, in turn, learning a new one. Just think, this could open up a whole new world of creativity and social time.

We will have a survey/signup sheet in the library next week to see what crafts folks might be interested in and what day and time would work.

Children’s Programs

The “Paws to Read” program is doing quite well with children working hard at increasing their reading skills. Reading to “Mac”, the therapeutic poodle is also lots of fun.

If your child hasn’t participated as yet, please give us a call to set up an appointment. The sessions are only 15 minutes long, and your child will enjoy it – and Mac. The program is every Wednesday from 3.30 – 4.30 p.m.

The LEGO club creations have been very imaginative and very detailed.

The children are very creative at building something new with the different themes each week and have fun helping each other. Their masterpieces are put on display for everyone to see until the next week.

The program is available to boys and girls from 6 years and up, so if your child is interested, come and see us on Wednesday from 3.30 – 4.30 p.m.

Story Time is very busy each week with lots of children having fun playing instruments, games, singing, listening to a story and doing the craft. There is a new theme each week and, on special occasions, there are special activities.

Come and be a part of the fun.

This program is every Friday at 10.30 to 11.15 a.m. for ages 2 and up.

For more information on any or all our programs please call us at 519-925-2168.

So, for a change, encourage your kids to use the computer for some well designed and relevant information that is fun to use!

Teen Scene

Our Teens have until this Friday to finish up their submissions for the Write Across Ontario contest, so we will finish up our submissions at the Teen Scene meeting on Thursday, November 17.

If you haven’t started yet (we hope you have), you still have time to create a 250-500-word submission for a chance to win $500! Our Teen book club, Pizza & Pages, will meet Thursday, November 24, to discuss Shade Me by Jennifer Brown.

We will also be creating canvas art which involves paint, so wear old clothes!

Looking forward to December, we will be hosting our second annual Teen Gingerbread House Decoration Competition on December 8. We invite those 13+ to come and compete as an individual or a team in this judged contest!

Teens will have one hour to decorate their houses according to this year’s criteria; houses will be left on display to allow for the public to vote. Our second, if not biggest event in December, will be our Teen Fan-demonium Party on December 15.

We need YOUR help for this event! Do you LOVE a certain fandom? Have a killer craft or game to go with it? Teens are encouraged to be involved in planning this event, and community service hours will be given to those who help do so.

Contact Jade @ YOUR Library or email jnoble@shelburnelibrary.ca with any interest or questions.

Let us know you’re coming to any/all of these events to help us be prepared. Follow us on Facebook (/shelburnelibrary) or Twitter (@ShelburnePL) to keep up to date!
