A 4-3 win over the Essa Eagles has moved the Shelburne Wolves Novice Rep into first place in their division.

The two teams met for a battle for the top spot at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex on Sunday, November 27.

Both teams came out flying early in the game in a serious effort to get that important early goal.

The Wolves took the early lead in the game when Carter Stevenson hit the back of the Essa net to start things off.

Wolves forward Cole Reed made it a 2-0 game when he took the feed across the net and shot the puck across the Eagles goal.

Less than a minute later, Essa scored their opening goal and worked hard to close the gap.

Shelburne’s Tyson Galbraith gave the Wolves a two goal lead in the second period when he found himself alone on a breakaway and picked off the top corner of the net to score.

The Wolves let up on the defence in the third period, allowing Essa to score two to make it a tie game.

The Shelburne team rallied late in the game when Galbraith got his second goal of the game and the tie breaker with 3:46 left on the clock to give the Wolves a 3-2 win.

“The kids stopped moving their feet for about six minutes in the third period,” summed up Wolves coach Chris Reed. “After a bit of a talking to they worked their way back in the last five minutes and scored a goal to win the game with just under four minutes to go. This puts us 10-1 for the season now we’re in third place. We’ve got nine games to go.”

The Wolves will be back on home ice this Friday, December 2, to host the Flesherton Golden Hawks at the CDRC.

Game time is 7 p.m.
