The response to our Walk the Wall Challenge is fantastic! If you have your own device to track your steps and would like to participate, just come into the library to sign up. We have eight weeks left, and the more participants, the merrier!

Friday, January 27, is Family Literacy Day and we have interesting, educational events planned for the whole family.

Story Time attendees (ages 2+) are invited to bring their favourite stuffed toy, and even leave it with us for a sleepover at the library! Stuffies can then be picked up Saturday, January 28, between 10 am and 5 pm. For the rest of the family, we will be hosting a whacky word game of Kahoot! and demonstrating how to make ice cream in a bag! Bring mitts; it’s going to be chilly!

Children’s Programs

The Paws to Read program, and the LEGO club (ages 6- 12) have started up again – Wednesday, January 18, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Story Time will start Friday, January 20 at 10:30 a.m.

Author Visit:

Regrettably, due to the inclement weather on Tuesday, we had to cancel our Author Event with R.A. Spratt. However, we have her books and I know our young readers will enjoy them.

We will be starting a new Super Readers Club for ages 7 and up after school, so watch for an upcoming announcement. This is a great way for young folks to reinforce their reading interests and discuss their favourites with other children their age.

Teen Scene

Writer’s Café continues to meet on Tuesdays after school, from 3.30 – 4.30 p.m. Bring a project, or work on one of our writing prompts.

Last week, our teens created beautiful scratchboard CD art using paint and various implements to scratch patterns in the paint. They looked great! This week, teens can come to the library on Thursday evening from 6 – 7 p.m. to make giant decorative snowflakes!

NEW BOOKS

By now you will know that Canoe Country by Roy McGregor is this year’s One Book, One County Reads selection. This is a great read; a non-fiction book written like a novel which makes it entertaining and informative at the same time. It was a choice book of mine for a Christmas gift.

The historical information is interesting and gives great insight into “the making of Canada.”

We have several copies available for you to sign out.

Mark April 9 on your calendar for the Grand Finale at Dufferin County Museum and Archives.

I just finished Elin Hilderbrand’s latest book, Winter Storms; a cozy, light and fast read for you fans of Elin. It is the third book in the trilogy about the Quinn family. We do have the other two previous novels.

There is a short list of books this week as most of the new catalogued books were children’s books.

However, I am certain you will still find some materials that you will want to read still on our shelves! (If this was a text message, I would insert a smiley right there at the end of the sentence!)

Triple Crown by Felix Francis
