The more the merrier! As of the time we wrote this article, our patrons have walked 1.75 million steps! Keep up the great work! Friday, January 27 is Family Literacy Day and we have lots of fun events planned for the whole family. Story Time attendees (ages 2+) are invited to bring their favourite stuffed toy, and even leave it with us for a sleepover at the library! Stuffies can then be picked up on Saturday, January 28, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. On Family Literacy Day, for the whole family, we will host a whacky word game of Kahoot! and demonstrating how to make ice cream in a bag! Bring mitts; it's going to be chilly!   Blind Date with a Book We know you've all been waiting for its return: Blind Date with a Book 2017 will launch on Thursday, January 26! Not sure what to read next? Tired of the genre you normally read? This is a great chance to try a book without judging the cover. Just come in, read the hints on your “date's” packaging, and sign it out without knowing the title!   Children's Programs Story Time is this Friday, January 27, at 10.30 am and it is all about Teddy bears and bears in general, so bring a teddy bear to Story Time and, because it is Family Literacy Day, the bears can stay for a sleepover at the Library. We are looking for children who would like to participate in the Paws to Read program with Mac the lovable, therapeutic poodle who loves to listen to children read to him. Sign up today for a 15 minute session with Mac on Wed. from 3:30 to 4:30 pm LEGO Club has started again on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm for any child from Grade 1 and up. The Super Readers Club has begun and runs for six weeks; this is for children from JK to Grade 6, on Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. Come in and join up for  reading, crafts, and awards. Great new picture books and junior fiction books have arrived, so drop in and see us or call 519-925-2168 for more information.   Teen Scene We would like to wish all those completing exams this week the best of luck! Last week, our Teens made epic wall decorations, and you'd be surprised how amazing their giant arrows turned out after a little gold paint was applied. Writer's Café will continue on Tuesday, January 31, from 3:30 – 4:30 pm, however there will be no Pizza and Pages meeting on Thursday, January 26, nor a Teen Scene meeting on February 2. Teen Scene will resume February 9 alongside our White Pine reading club launch party from 6- 7 p.m.   NEW BOOKS and NEW LITERARY EVENTS Canoe Country by Roy McGregor is this year's One Book, One County Reads selection. We have several copies available for you to sign out. Mark April 9 on your calendar for the Grand Finale at Dufferin County Museum and Archives. In conjunction with this book and as a precursor to the April Grand Finale, we will be hosting Al Pace and Lin Ward at our Library Literary Event on Sunday, March 5, 2017. This will be a very engaging presentation for anyone interested in the outdoors, wildlife, canoes and so much more. Tickets are free and will be available at YOUR library. Ian Hamilton's latest book, The Couturier of Milan is a great read if you are an Ava Lee fan. Once again, Ian and Ava do not disappoint.
