Shelburne Library NewsBy Rose Dotten Walk the Wall Challenge At this point in time, we have taken 3.85 million steps! With a little over a month to go, we've still got work to do to reach our goal of walking the length of the Great Wall of China. We've also received another batch of pedometers, so if you or a friend are interested in helping us meet this goal, stop by the library and get registered. Blind Date with a Book 2017 We've had some successful matches with our Blind Date Books. So, if you're not sure what to read next or tired of the genre you normally read, then this is a great chance to try a book without judging the cover. Just come in, read the hints on your “date's” package, and sign it out without knowing the title! Children's Programs Some suggestion regarding new children's books: The Copernicus Legacy by Tony Abbott and The Creature from My Closet by Obert Skye are just a few of the new junior fiction books. We also have lots of new picture books and the “Forest of Reading” books here as well. The afterschool programs are ongoing. Mac from The Paws to Read program is always looking for new readers to join him on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The LEGO Club has room for more enthusiasts to create beautiful structures on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The Super Readers club on Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. has only three more sessions, but everyone is welcome. Story Time continues its regularly scheduled time on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. LEGO CLUB is very busy on Wednesday after school at 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. This week we are creating dinosaurs. Teen Scene Writer's Café continues Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and participants are encouraged to bring their own projects to work on. Teens will be excited to know that our White Pine Reading Club starts up again on Thursday, February 9. Like last year, we will have tons of fun activities to complete, and students in Grades 9-12 will have the opportunity to read and vote on 10 of the best Canadian fiction titles produced in 2016. You must read at least 5/10 titles to be eligible to vote, but we know you won't be able to stop at 5. February 9th – White Pine Launch Party. Open to Grades 9-12. 6:00-7:00pm. February 16th- Alternative Valentine's Day Social. This is not your average Valentine's gathering. Look forward to cupcake decorating, games, and a craft. There just might even be a prize. 6:00-7:00 p.m. February 23rd- Pizza & Pages Book Club Meeting. 6:00-7:00 p.m. DUFFERIN READS: ONE BOOK ONE COUNTY: Library Literary Event: Sunday, March 5, 2017 @ 2:00 pm We will be hosting Al Pace and Lin Ward at our Library Literary Event on Sunday, March 5, 2017. This will be a very engaging presentation for anyone interested in the outdoors, wildlife, canoes and so much more. The Presentation is a tie-in to our One Book One County Reads selection, Canoe Country by Roy McGregor. Tickets are free and will be available at YOUR library.
