Shelburne Library News: Keep Walking the Wall

By Rose Dotten

We have less than one week left, steppers!

Currently we've stepped 10.4 million steps! The last day to check in is Saturday, March 11, and then you can hand your pedometers in starting next Monday.

As a finale event for the Walk the Wall Challenge, we will be hosting the Headwaters Food and Farming Alliance programmers at the Library, Thursday, March 23 from 6 – 7.30 p.m.

This will be a great chance to meet other steppers and learn about healthy, local food options. Snacks included! If you can make it, let us know by calling the library 519-925-2168, or email jnoble@shelburnelibrary.ca

Please Note: There is NO story time this Friday, March 10.

LEGO CLUB will be cancelled the week of March Break as we have the Three Little Pigs @ Grace Tipling Hall. Tickets are $3.00.

Paws to Read is on Wednesday, March 15 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. There is one space available at 4:15, if your child is interested. Then, Mac, the therapeutic poodle, is taking a holiday on Wednesday, March 22 and the 29. The program will resume Wednesday, April 5 at 3:30 p.m.

Come in and check out some of our new junior fiction series. A couple of new series are The  Diary of a Minecraft Zombie by Zak Zombie and The Copernicus Legacy by Tony Abbott. We also have some new picture books a well.

So visit YOUR Library or call 519-925-2168.

Teen Scene

Teens had a GREAT time creating giant graphic novels last week, and because their ideas were so detailed, this event is carrying over to Writer's Café this week. There will be NO Teen events this Thursday, March 9, as we are participating in Community Information Night at the CDRC. Drop by, say hi, and check out what YOUR Library has to offer YOU.

IN OTHER NEWS

Last Sunday's Library Literary Event was a huge success. We had a capacity turnout and by all counts, everyone really enjoyed the presentation with Al Pace integrating the canoe trips he and his team lead in the Yukon and his pottery.

The inspiration for his work was obvious and thrilling to see. The social event afterwards included a feast of hors d'oeuvres created by the Library Ladies – Bev, Jade, Trudy and Rose – moose and venison meatballs, smoked salmon, tortiere, maple log donut bars, maple tarts and ‘smores. The décor was enhanced with a canoe at the entrance welcoming patrons and paddles etc., brought in by Jim and Diane, our wonderful volunteers.
