Shelburne Library News: Come and join our fabulous programs!By Rose Dotten LEGO CLUB - every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., and Paws to Read also on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. Story Time is on Fridays at 10:30. And this week's theme is the WEATHER! We welcome you to come and join us and be a part of a fun and educational time here at your Library. Just a little reminder that the TD Summer Reading Program will be starting July 8, 2017. The theme is CANADA this year as we celebrate Canada's 150th birthday. New books have arrived. There are a couple of Geronimo Stilton titles, the Jonathan Stroud series, “Lockwood & Co.,” and a few new picture books. Come in and check out the books and the programs that are available. Teen Scene Here's our exciting news for the week—one of our library teens has won the Forest of Reading White Pine book review challenge! We haven't found out specifically which teen's review won, but we will be sure to keep you updated! As for the prize, we win a set of books and other cool “Forest” gear. Yahoo! We had a VERY messy time last Thursday night. Did you know that if you mix food colouring and shaving foam with your hands, and you add hard-boiled eggs you create marbled Easter eggs?! You also get very colourful hands! Up this week is our invite only White Pine Reading party. The individuals who qualify for this party have read and reviewed 5/10 White Pine books! Pizza and fun included. Recommended read of the week: Caraval by Stephanie Garber. This magical mystery requires Scarlette to find her kidnapped sister inside the great Caraval, a game which isn't quite what it seems! NEW BOOKS: Dufferin Reads: One Book One County: The Grand Finale with Roy McGregor is only a month away; however, most of the tickets have already been sold. There are a few available so if you are planning to attend, purchase yours soon. Reserve: Saturday, May 13, 1 pm @ Dufferin County Museum and Archives. Another fabulous book and author to recommend this week: Not a new title but excellent in the description of the time during and after the fire in the garment factory in Dhaka, Bangladesh. A Harvest of Thorns by Corban Addison describes in horrific detail about what happened at the fire and the lives of some of the survivors and victims' families. It details the fictitious factories and the roles of the executives who turned away from the truth and were complicit in the ongoing cover-up. The redeeming outcome of the book with its surprising twists and the clever turn of the plot will evoke emotions and feelings that will leave you wanting to read more by this author. He writes well and eloquently, describing emotions and characters with engrossing detail.
