There is lots of excitement around the opening of the Shelburne Farmers’ Market (SFM) on May 24th. Jennifer Crewson manager of the popular Thursday event on First Street in Shelburne says, “ this year we are featuring a number of new vendors such as Mulmur Hills Honey and Miner’s Maple Product, but are also pleased to welcome back some of our favourites such as Shine Baking Co and Petals Flower Farm. She says the Farmers’ Market is also happy to bring back Community Kids, Face Painting by Sohayla Smith and Troupe-Adore, and Compost Day.

This year’s SFM Committee has expanded with the growing event to include: Jennifer Crewson as Market Manager, Rosie Cornelius as Vendor Manager, Alexandra Georgakopoulos as Marketing and Media Coordinator, Izabela Busby as the Community Table Coordinator, Rebecca Landman as Secretary, Joey Lemieux as Market Day Set-Up Coordinator, and Brian Besley as the SFM Treasurer.

New for 2018, the organizers are introducing the “Community Table” which will give different community organizations a space to be featured at the market. Not-for-profit organizations, small businesses, or organizations may book the booth for a one or two time use to gain exposure, promote events – or for non profits – to raise funds. In turn, the community will learn more about local events, organizations, businesses and fundraisers happening within the community.

The Community Table will also give new vendors an opportunity to test their product out at SFM without having to commit to an entire market season. Jennifer Crewson says, “We are really hoping this will enrich our Market and bring more people out on Thursdays.

As a great add on idea, organizers say Healthy Cravings Holistic Kitchen at 155 Main Street in Shelburne will remain open on Thursday evenings. This allows Market goers to grab a coffee, smoothie or sandwich before, or after, attending the Market which runs from 3 pm – 7pm every week of the growing season.

Once again this year, local and area vendors will be selling a wide variety of fresh produce, ranging from in-season fruits, vegetables, grass-fed meats, organic produce, and lots of delicious, fresh baked goods. Local artisans will be showing their beautiful wood-craft decor and there will be a bounty of flower bouquets for sale.

The dozen or more new vendors will be featuring handmade and natural bath products, body butters and soaps, honey based cocktail syrups, flower art, raw pet foods and more.

The Shelburne Farmers’ Market will run until October 4th – come rain or shine. With free activities for kids, and Trinity United Church washrooms open to the public right at the corner of Owen Sound and First Street, the market is shaping up once again as a great place for the entire family to spend a Thursday afternoon.
