Note to Shelburne Council

May 24, 2018   ·   0 Comments

After hearing of the secret plans to sell off Fiddle Park we have been totally shocked. Shelburne has been our home for 46 years and we are (or were) very proud to be a part of a wonderful friendly community, but this kind of underhanded move from our council has put a very hurtful spin on our feelings. We cannot imagine what kind of deal has been put on the table to have all seven of you voting for this. In our opinion, your credibility has gone out the window and if we were in your shoes, we would feel very ashamed. Greg and Heather have put their heart and soul into making that park work, and along with the service clubs it was actually turning into something we could all be proud of, but we have seen little or nothing from the town to contribute to their efforts.

For sometime now, we have felt that this council has forgotten the old town and especially the south end with the swampy walking path between Simon and Jelly and the green slimy ponds. It seems like all you are interested in is bringing new people in and to hell with the rest of us.

Yes, seven million dollars is a lot of money, but it won’t even pay for the new police service that we will need with all the new people, so the thought that we MIGHT get better parks is totally ludicrous.

We have both taken our turn to make this a good town by joining Kinsmen, being on the first executive to start the Co-op Nursery School, joining the hospital auxiliary, starting the first block parent group, volunteering at Centennial Highlands School for ten years, volunteering at Dufferin Oaks and Edd being on council, but in in one fell swoop, you have turned this town into a shallow hole of a place to live.

We can honestly say that you have joined the ranks with the Federal and Provincial governments for dishonesty and lack of transparency.

You have all lost our vote and quite frankly our respect.

All we can say is that it must have been one hell of a deal for someone, but not the taxpayers.

Thanks for nothing
