After winning their opening game over the Orangeville Bengals on May 7, the Cubs have held a steady course on the diamond. Their second game of the season against the Ivy Blues ended in an 8-4 Mansfield win. They repeated against Ivy the following day in Ivy with a 5-1 win over the Blues. They won game four over the Lisle Astros on May 22, then hosted the Astros on home turf in Mansfield on Friday, May 25. Their winning streak came to end during the Friday game when Lisle had an outstanding late game comeback. The Cubs got off to a huge start in that game with a strong first inning that scored three runs. A hit that bounced off the outfield fence by Jacob Hall brought in a run. That was followed by another double from Jeff Christman that brought in two more runs for an early Mansfield lead. In the third inning, Lucas Day hit to the right field fence and made it to third base for a triple that brought in the fourth Cubs run for the night. After four innings the Cubs were leading 9-2. Lisle brought in three runs in the fifth to make it a 9-5 game. At the end of the sixth the Mansfield squad had a four run lead. It was the seventh that caused all the damage when Lisle had a six run inning to take the lead and hold on for an 11-10 win over the Cubs. In the standings the Cubs are in first place with a 4-1 record so far. The New Lowell Knights are in second place with a single loss. They are followed by the Midland Twins in fourth place and the Orangeville Bengals in fifth. The Orillia Royals are currently in the number six position with the Ivy Blues in the basement with no wins and two losses. The Cubs will return to their home diamond in Mansfield on Monday, June 4, when they will host the Lisle Astros. Game time is 6:30 p.m. --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2018-05-31 13:36:50 Post date GMT: 2018-05-31 17:36:50 Post modified date: 2018-05-31 13:36:50 Post modified date GMT: 2018-05-31 17:36:50 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
