Vendors highlight this weekend’s Street Festival and Car Show

Written By MARNI WALSH

The Open Air Market, sponsored by Prim Pickins, will stretch as far as the eye can see this Saturday, as one of the many highlights of Shelburne's annual Street Festival and Classic Car Show, with approximately 200 vendors registered for the event.

Vendors will display a wide variety of products for sale including fresh produce, baking, gifts, clothing, handmade crafts and jewellery, photography, art, fast food, as well as service clubs and other organizations and much more. New this year, Rod West the “Morning Guy” and Operations Manager at Country 105 is emcee at the stage all day long.

The event has grown over the years to become one of the areas top festivals. The streets of Shelburne will be lined with vendors, classic cars, bikes, entertainment, and food and events for the whole family.

Be sure to check out new additions to the Kids Zone. Box car races have been relocated to Second Ave East this year. Kids seven and up can borrow one of Festival's loaner soap cars and race for a chance to win a trophy.

As usual the vendors will be located on William Street, First Ave East, and even Owen Sound Street. The Motorcycle Show and Shine on Owen Sound Street is hosted by CMC Dufferin 036 and sponsored by Missie Ink Tattoos. Proceeds from the Show & Shine are to be donated to Sick Kids Hospital, and proceeds from the bike ride to go to Family Transition Place.

Committee Chair, Councillor Dan Sample says, “The entertainment is all booked and we have some new acts this year, so come and visit the main stage.” Confirmed entertainment includes: The Burne, Roller Girls, Jay Kips Band, and Drop Top Alibi as well as Jungle Justin for the kids.

The 2018 Shelburne Street Festival Committee has been working very hard planning all the activities and putting in a lot of volunteer hours. Committee members making this year's event another great success include: Dan Sample Chair, Jamie-Lee Higginson Vice Chair, Lindsey Baker Secretary, Lindsay Wegener Box Car Organizer, Kyle Fegan Entertainment Organizer, Missie Powers Bike Show Organizer, Taresa Fawcett Volunteer Organizer, Jay Wagstaff Kids Zone Organizer, Leoni Petrasthuk Advertising, Steve Anderson Council representative, and Mayor Ken Bennington.

Volunteers are always needed and students can earn community service hours for high school. Willing volunteers for the festival may contact Tess Fawcett at just.tess@hotmail.com. Fingers crossed for blue skies this Saturday, June 16th from 10 am – 4pm at the annual Shelburne Street Festival in downtown Shelburne. All are welcome!
