Pedestrian stable following serious collision in Shelburne



Shelburne Police are investigating a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that took place on Main Street at approximately 8 p.m. on June 21.

Dufferin County Paramedic Services and Shelburne and District Fire Department also responded to this incident.

The pedestrian was transported to a Toronto area hospital with serious injuries.  The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

As a result of the collision Main Street between William Street and James Street was closed for over 9 hours for the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and updates will be provided in the following days.

At this time no charges have been laid.  The investigation into this matter is continuing.

Stunt driving charges laid

Dufferin OPP were kept busy over the weekend charging 5 drivers with stunt driving.

At 11:57 a.m. on June 23, 2018 Police clocked a vehicle traveling on Dufferin County Road 10 and 4th Line in Amaranth Township at 142 km/hour in a posted 80 km zone.  The 26 year old male driver from Kippen,Ontario was charged with performing at stunt and his driver's license was suspended and vehicle impounded both for 7 days.

At 6:07 p.m. Dufferin OPP clocked a vehicle doing 132 km in a posted 80 km zone on Highway 10 in Mono the vehicle fled from police westbound on 25th side road and end up in east ditch.  Police arrested a 46-year-old man from Shelburne for Dangerous Driving and Flight from Police under the Criminal code and Stunt Driving under the Highway Traffic Act.  The driver and one occupant transported to an area hospital with non-life Threatening injuries.

On June 23, 2018 at 7:04 p.m. on southbound Highway 10 near 250 side road in Melancthon Township.  Officers clocked a vehicle at 162 km/hour in a posted 80 km/hour zone. The 22 year old male driver from Brampton was charged with performing at stunt and his driver's license was suspended and vehicle impounded both for 7 days

At 7:10 p.m. the same date  Police clocked another southbound vehicle on Highway 10 near 279 side road at 135 km/hour in a posted 80 km zone.  A 33 year old male driver from Toronto was also charged with stunt driving and had his driver's license suspended and vehicle impounded for 7 days

At 9:11 p.m. police observed an westbound pickup truck on Highway 89, just east of 2nd line west of Melanchton. The vehicle was travelling 137 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone. The driver turned onto 2nd line west, and then into a private driveway.

A traffic stop was initiated and female driver failed a roadside test for alcohol and was arrested for impaired driving.  She was transported to the Shelburne Police Station  for breath test, As a result a 50-year-old resident of Amaranth was charged with Impaired operation, refuse to provide breath sample, Stunt (137km/hr in an 80) and Drive motor vehicle – not equipped with ignition interlock device.

She is scheduled to appear at the Orangeville Courthouse 10 July 2018.

OPP investigate collision in Melancthon

On Tuesday June 19 at 10:06 p.m. Dufferin OPP were dispatched to a serious personal injury motor vehicle collision on the 8th Line southwest but north of Highway 89 in Melancthon Township

Preliminary Investigation reveals a northbound motorcycle collided with a northbound farm tractor.  The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene by Dufferin EMS.  The driver of the tractor was transported to Headwaters Health Centre by Dufferin EMS.

The driver of the motorcycle was identified as James Quinn Edward Shook, 42 years of age, of Melancthon, Ontario. Next of kin have been notified.

OPP Traffic Collision Investigators attended and processed the scene. Investigation is continuing and no charges have been laid.
