Go Fund Me Page established to help family pay for new well

Written By JASEN OBERMEYER

A Go Fund Me Page has been set up to raise money for a Melancthon family who need a new well installed on their property.

Fred and Carol Anne Ryder have been living in their home for over 42 years, sharing a well with their neighbour. Recently, they have been informed they can no longer use the well come early October.

“Right now we're still hooked to the well,” said Mr. Ryder. “There's not much I can do, it's not my well.”

Along with his wife, the family also has their son, daughter-in-law, and grandson living with them. “I just retired last fall, and so did my wife,” Mr. Ryder added.

A couple of their neighbours, Connie Dubois and Darlene Hann, are looking to raise $10,000 for the family to install their own well.

“I started this because I felt that they are great down to earth people that could not afford this at this late stage in their life,” said Ms. Hann to the Free Press. “They are very humble people and would not ask for help. I had to convince them.”

“I'm grateful for any help I can get,” commented Mr. Ryder.

Ms. Hann said she is planning on having a barbecue and yard sale on September 1st to raise additional funds.

“I will be seeing local businesses for door prizes and food for the barbeque,” she said. “I have already canvassed some of the neighbours and they are all on board and pulling out goodies for the event.”

The event will take place at 681157 260 Side road Melancthon.
