Casamento: Four year vision focuses on growth, job creation, transit

CANDIDATE: ALTHEA CASAMENTO

RUNNING FOR: COUNCILLOR

My name is Althea Casamento and I am pleased to announce my candidacy for the position of Town Councillor.

I am a mom of two and a successful business owner in town.  My professional background includes Business, Human Resources and photography.

As a Human Resource professional I was responsible for providing a wide range of HR services for several large companies specifically in drafting and implementing policies and procedure, legal compliance, training, health and safety and recruitment.

As a business owner I am able to see first hand the needs and challenges faced by business owners in our community and will work with the EDC and BIA closely to help find solutions.

I am determined to use these skills in making important decisions for our community at Council table.

With respect to my community involvement, I am proud to share my participation and leadership in several community initiatives which includes:

     Spearheading and assisting with many fund raising initiatives such as the Breakfast Program, Family Transition Place and the Food Bank just to name a few.

  Creating and hosting Shelburne’s first Multicultural Day event.

• Serving as Vice-Chair for the Fiddle Parade.

  Board Member for the Dufferin County Adult Advisory Committee.

  Former Director for the Fair Board.

My leadership experience and community involvement will allow me to impact and influence positive change in the community.

My four year vision includes

• Supporting commercial growth

– Making sure our residential growth matched our commercial growth

• Job creation

– I will work with our local employment centre and the town’s Economic Development Committee to bring good paying jobs to Shelburne.

• Managing growth

– Maintaining our heritage/landmarks as it is an extension of who are as a community.

– Addressing the need for infrastructure to accommodate growth.

– Advocate for affordable and accessible housing

– Having adequate health care, emergency response services for our community.

– Obtain a truck by-pass to ease congestion and improve safety on our streets.

– Securing a transit system

• Support of heritage/cultural based programs & celebrations

– Embrace our diversity through town events

• Recreational facilities and program for our community

– Look in to a YMCA facility for our community,

– Having our local recreational centre open for extended hours and offering more activities

– Working with developers and local businesses to sponsor more recreational activities in the community.

I am passionate about this community and believe it’s a great place to live.    It’s where I have chosen to raise my family and grow my business.  I will commit my time and effort in making sure Shelburne remains a great community.  I have the dedication and leadership experience to be your councillor and will ensure that your concerns are tabled for discussion.

This is our town and if you vote for me I will be your voice on topics that impact us as a community.
