Student: Jenna Fines

Placement: Shelburne Home Hardware

This week Jenna Fines from Centre Dufferin District High School shares a little bit about her Co-operative Education experience at Shelburne Home Hardware.

Shelburne Home Hardware is an individually run business that offers everything you need to build your dream home and to decorate the interior. The main store offers paint, cleaning, automotive, building, decor, and much more. On site, there is a huge lumber yard so you can pick up your product right away or have it delivered.

For my Co-op, I am working with an extraordinary team in Kitchen & Bath Design Center which has custom kitchens and vanities. The design team will come out and measure your kitchen and our professionals will install it. As part of my placement I get to travel to sites to measure a customer’s new kitchen or vanity, as well as work with Katie on the designs. We also have in-office days where all the paperwork such as ordering gets done. I have had the privilege to work with Katie, Kaitlyn, and Richard all of whom have taken time out of their busy schedules to train me, and to help me understand design.

Shelburne Home Hardware provides many other local job opportunities such as cashier, customer service, paint, garden center, lumber yard, and many more.

At their annual yard sales they have different charitable organizations cooking hot dogs provided by Home Hardware. All the donations go directly to these organizations. Shelburne Home Hardware also sponsors some local sports teams like the Shelburne Wolves Hockey Team. At their annual Donate a Plate Program anyone is able to donate money to local schools in Shelburne for their breakfast programs.
