Muskies suffer losing weekend

Written By BRIAN LOCKHART

The Shelburne Muskies stumbled a little in their quest to move up in the WOAA Senior rankings after taking losses in both of their weekend games.

The squad travelled to Kincardine on Friday, January 18, to take on the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks.

After a hard fought battle, the Muskies were squeezed out with a 4 – 3 loss.

Returning to Shelburene the following night the Muskies hosted the Clinton Radars at the Centre Dufferin Recreaton Complex.

After tough first period that saw the Radars score four goals, the Shelburne squad was trailing 4 – 1 going into the second frame.

That first period was the deciding factor in the game as the Muskies managed to keep the Radars down to one goal for the rest of the game while scoring one of their own.

The final was a 5 – 2 win for the Clinton team.

With only five games left on the regular season schedule the top seven teams are already decided int eh standings.

The Clinton Radars lead the pack with 41 points and a 20-2 record.

They are followed by the Ripley Wolves in second place with 17 wins after 20 games.

The Durham Thundercats are in third place followed by the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks, Petrolia Squires, Mapleton-Minto 81's, and the Tavistock Royals.

The Muskies have not been guaranteed a playoff berth yet. As the number eight team they are in the running but will need to win their final game to stay ahead of the Huron East Centenaires who are one point behind. The Tilsonburg Thunder are also a threat with 19 points.

The Muskies will meet the Thunder for road game on Friday, January 26, for their final game of the regular season.
