Dominos Pizza helps local Novice team with special fundraiser

The Shelburne Wolves Novice rep received a healthy boost to their bank account thanks to the Domino's Pizza Shelburne location.

The popular local pizza maker donated half the price of a large pizza sold on Monday, January 28, to the Novice rep to help offset the cost of ice time, tournaments, and the other costs associated with playing Canada's favourite game.

The Wolves players and their coaches showed up at the location to thank patrons for coming in and ordering a Domino's pizza and helping support their team.

“We're doing a fundraiser for the Shelburne Wolves. We have deal going on – one large pizza, four toppings, between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., and half of that goes to the Shelburne Wolves,” explained Domino's regional manager, Ash Israni. “We've been going back and for the with the community. We're just trying to help out as much as we can. This town is all about community. Helping out is the best think I can do.”

Novice assistance coach, and president of Shelburne Minor Hockey, Dean Baird, said this type of fundraising goes a long way to help keep a travelling team on the road.

“We have three kids from the team coming each hour to thank customers for their support,” Baird explained. “The Peewee AE team did it early in the year and they made a lot of money. They put it on the Shelburne website as pizza day, and everybody from the Shelburne Minor Hockey community calls and orders pizzas. This helps us with tournament entries and things like that.”

The Novice team is having a good year and are currently moving into the quarter-finals of the OMHA playoffs.

Fundraising is a big part of a hockey team's year as they move through the season.
