The Shelburne Wolves peewee rep team are Georgian Bay Minor Hockey League champions after winning their best-of-five final series against the Stayner Cyclones.

The series got underway on March 17, at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex.

The Wolves left the ice with a 5-3 win in game one after a hard fought battle by both teams

Heading up to Stayner on Tuesday, March 19, the series was tied after the Cyclones got the edge in game two and managed to take a 4-1 win.

Returning to Shelburne for game three on Thursday, March 28, the Cyclones opened the scoring in the first period.

The Wolves tied the game in the second period on a shot that popped up in the air and dropped behind the Stayner goalie and into the net.

It was the third period that made all the difference when the Wolves turned it up and notch and scored two final period goals for the 3-1 win to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

“I think we played hard,” said Wolves centre, Callum Stevenson, after the win. “We were down in the first period but we came back and stepped our game. We didn’t give up and we kept positive. We forced the puck deep and backchecked.”

Wolves right wing, Ben Moylan, thought the team did a good job in the game.

“I thought we played well,” Ben said. “We did forechecking and backchecking, working hard and not taking a shift off. I think we were a little sleepy at the start but we didn’t give up and we kept trying. You have to know if we play the way we did today we can win the series.”

The series ended on Friday, March 29, when the Wolves won the game 3-2 to claim the series and the championship.
