Shelburne is growing at such a rapid rate. The population has almost doubled since 2003 and is still growing, with the population expected to reach over 10,000 in the next few years. So how great is it when a new business comes to town? Especially when it’s a unique business and one that this little one horse town needs!

Welcome to the newest addition to Main Street: Blavish Hair and Beauty Supplies! Owner, operator, entrepreneur Vennisha Balfour is full of smiles and optimism as she currently held the grand opening of her salon on Main Street West in Shelburne last week. What an amazing, friendly, outgoing person she is and it’s a credit to have her join our string of small local business owners in town.

Born and raised in Jamaica, Vennisha had it tough growing up, and her family decided to move to Canada when she was in her teens for a better life. Vennisha always made the most of her opportunities and let nothing get her down, and was ecstatic when she was accepted at college in Toronto for Medical Admin. She then decided to change vocation and went to hairdressing school to follow her dream and her passion. She graduated successfully in hairdressing and esthetics whilst working a couple of jobs to get her way through school.

Vennisha fulfilled her dream a year ago when she opened her Hair and Beauty Salon in Shelburne, which was officially opened on Saturday May 25^TH by our Assistant Mayor and local Steve Anderson, and councillor Kyle Fegan. She realized how tiring it was commuting to the city to work a regular job, and how time consuming it was for her to travel to hair salons that work specifically with Afro – Caribbean hair and to buy her speciality products and for hair appointments. This decision alone swayed her to invest in her own business. She knew there was a market for this kind of business in Shelburne, and voila! Here she is. With dedicated and supportive husband Terence and with a little help from her 3 children, she worked tirelessly to secure her location, obtain her permits and open her Hair and Beauty Salon which is stocked with wonderful products from floor to ceiling.

The variety of services offered is endless, from traditional corn rows, to braids and weaves, extensions, and of course many hair services for men. Take a stroll down Main Street West, check out the array of products and meet the newest addition to us “Shelburnites” and see what a warm welcome you get.
