The weather cooperated and provided a perfect day for baseball when the Mansfield Senior Cubs hosted the Bolton Brewers for a double header on the diamond in Mansfield on Sunday, June 23.

At the end of the first game, the Brewers were on top with an 11 – 2 win.

The teams took a break before getting back at it for the second game of the afternoon.

Trailing by five in the third inning the Cubs got the bats moving when they led off with a single followed by a run batted in by Tyler Greer to close the gap.

The bottom of the third had the Brewers going ahead with two runs batted in on a double that hit the centre field fence.

The big catch of the night took place in the fourth when Brad Pendleton sprinted to the back to catch a fly ball right at the fence.

The Brewers scored on the only home run of the the day when Trent Barwick hit a single run homer in the fourth inning.

The inning ended when Cubs first baseman Devon Caldwell snagged a line-drive for the out.

Caldwell started the fifth inning with a double to right field but the Cubs couldn’t capitalize and no runs were scored.

The game ended with a three running inning for the Brewers to give Bolton a 13 – 4 win in the game.

The Cubs were coming off a good week after handing the first place New Lowell Knights their first loss of the season on June 17.

In that game the Mansfield team came out with a 7 – 4 win thanks largely to a three-run home run from Devon Caldwell and a single run home run from Brad Caldwell.

The Cubs will be back on the diamond in Mansfield this Sunday, June 30, for another double header when they host the Clarksburg Blues.

Game one is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., with game two slated for 4:00 p.m.
